Last part of Day 6, Heceta Head Lighthouse to Hobbit Beach

This is the rest of Day 6, after Cape Perpetua, we pulled over and stopped at a little place to have lunch.

I loved how Orrin looked down in that moody water, playing in the waves.

Then we hiked the Heceta Head Lighthouse to Hobbit Beach trail.

Such a ferny jungle!!

The kids loved going ahead and then hiding in a tree or something and trying to scare us.  See Ethne up above and to the left of Hazel in the picture below?

Talmage was a sweetie and made a little braided grass bracelet for Hazel and Navy.

The last little corridor to the beach was FILLLLED with crab shells.  It was kind of crazy weird.

Hazel thought it was creepy.

Hobbit Beach.

So why are my kids always just in their underwear?  Well, it's a good question.  But Oregon is too cold to actually SWIM in the water-- we watched some surfers get in and surf while we were eating lunch, and they had full body wetsuits on, covering hands, feet, and head.  It's just cold.  But, obviously, that's not going to keep the kids from getting IN the water, and getting wet, but it doesn't seem to justify actually getting swimming suits on--hence, they just strip down to underwear.  It seemed to work for us.

The weird burrowing sand crabs or whatever they were that we saw a gajillion of.

I just can never get enough pictures of cute kids running along the shore.

If you haven't noticed by now, Jethro was constantly wanting to play catch with the football.  Orrin was usually always up for it, even after the other little boys had tired of it.

We luckily found a campground that night (basically just drove by it).

Earlier in the day, last few from the other camera.

From the overlook - I think just the Cape Perpetua Overlook that we drove up to.

As one reviewer of the hike said, "Cool hike, but no hobbits."  haha
