Day 5 and 6, Cape Perpetua

Delicious food at Blake and Julia's.  Oh man, can I have some of that right now?

The next day we had church in the morning, and they asked Jethro to share some thoughts.

Then we started on our way, but alas, we kept hearing squeaks and weird sounds and Brett investigated and decided to change the brake pads and rotors so that we didn't have to end up doing it in an emergency basis on the side of the road.  So by the time that was done we just decided to stay another night.  Lucky lucky for us that Blake and Julia were so kind and generous of hosts, because we ended up staying those two extra nights (the first night extra because our campground reservation had been short a day).  It really was fun and I think Brett getting to do chores with Blake was one of the highlights of the trip for him.  Funny farm boys. :)

And later that day they took us to a nearby place to hike and see waterfalls.  I don't remember the name of it.

Orrin behind a waterfall.

Then everyone wanted to go.

The fork in the road.  :)

Cape Perpetua.  I must say, the overcast, gray, angsty day was PERFECT.  It was the perfect moodiness to the crashing waves and fog and general angry ambiance.  We loved watching the waves and Brett started making it into a kind of challenge to see if we could make it through all the obstacles --crossing logs, jumping across ravines, running across chasms before the waves came and soaked us.  It was awesome.  Apparently some of the places are titled 'Devil's Churn,' 'Trail of the Restless Way' and 'Captain Cook Loop.'

Thor's Well.  The beach also included Thor's Well, which fills up and then drains over and over, like it's breathing. It's super cool, but the best part was when, after watching fill up and drain out a few times, Orrin went really close to watch, and then it suddenly spouted up much higher and farther than it had before and he had to run away fast and we all laughed and laughed at him. 😄
And when we got home, Talmage was looking at our Wonders of the World book, and Thor's Well was in it!

I quite love this picture of those two boys.

Anemones!  They're very weird and sticky feeling if you touch them.

Tiniest frog you ever saw.

And a big pollywog.

Do you see the spray poof up through the hole?

Such a great morning.
