From shirt to dress

So I saw this tutorial where you can make a dress from a man's shirt, so I went to Goodwill and picked up this one that Brett modeled for me, and made it into this dress for Hazel! I did the pants to go under in hopes of making it look like the pedal pushers on this picture: Naartjie (the girl on the right).

However, I think the dress is kinda too long to look right. So, I pinned the bottom of the dress up in the next picture, and I think it looks a little better. What's your vote?
a. Leave the dress the length it is and kill the pants (they're kinda clownish anyway).
b. Make the dress shorter so it's more like a shirt.
c. Who really cares?
d. Other advice (take off ruffle, etc.)
If you're interested the tutorial for the shirt is here, and the pants here (they're really fast--but you gotta be careful what pants you trace, my first try turned out WAY too small, and the second try only just fits--I think it would have turned out better had I found some stretchy fabric, but Joann's didn't have much selection in stretchy material), and the headband here. (Katrina, there's your next project--I bet you'll like it. I scaled mine down to Hazel's size, but the pattern is for adult size.)
Anyway, this was the most exciting sewing project I've done yet, but now I'm taking a break from sewing. Gotta go now, the kids are in the backyard playing in the pool, so I'm going to go get Ethne in her swimming suit and take some pictures! :) Have a day!

I vote to either keep it as a dress and wear the pants separately, or make the shirt shorter! It is way cute! I wish I was as crafty as you are! I love looking at your cute pictures!

Kayli...very cute! I am getting the sewing bug too, but so far I am just thinking of things I want to make, and not actually doing it. I love seeing what you are making, so I can add them to my list! Kepp sharing your cool projects!

BTW...if you want to see some fancy pants, you can go check out www.fancypantsmom.blogspot.com
then click on the sidebar where it says "what are fancy pants?" This girl was a folk dancer at BYU when I was there. These outfits seem a little bit too fancy for my taste, but the concept is similar to the outfit you made for Hazel.

If it were me I'd keep it as a dress. My girls always seem to have a shortage of dresses and too many of other outfits. I think they're both really cute thoughJust not long with the dress, either pulled up with pants, or as a dress without the pants. That's my 2 cents.

No pants, I think along the clownish side was right. I love the headband though. I can't wait till I live closer to you. What fun we'll have!
