So, I know most of you are doing the whole Thanksgiving tomorrow and this weekend, and I’m not and that’s lame. What’s even lamER is that we WERE going to do Thanksgiving with some friends from Indiana but it ended up they couldn’t come. Dang permit shenanigans. (But we’ll see you sometime, Carlos and Alyse!)
It is suddenly very cold. Big sigh. I do not like it Sam I am.
In other news, on Monday we went into Bern for the Zibelemärit aka Onion Market. It’s a festival for uhh, selling onions and garlic. I don’t know why. Here are the pictures
Weird little onion people.
Onion rabbits.
My favorite—onions in traditional Swiss costume.
Some kids.
Grandma onions knitting.
Vendors and stalls and things.
Some kids.
More onions.
Brett really considered getting one of these belt buckles- the one with the plain bear. But didn’t.
I liked these little tree creatures.
There was tons of confetti being thrown. It was all over the streets and everywhere, but people actually throw it AT you. Little kids will have their bags, and when other kids walk by they chuck a handful of it at them. There were also plastic mallet things being sold, and sometimes people would whack you as you walked by. Strange, isn’t it?
You can see some confetti on Hazel’s hat. Also, someone made the fountain all bubbly.
Jethro trying to decide which knife he likes the best.
Department store Christmas displays are very perty.
The end.

very strange. no thanksgiving here either. I feel left out!
did you make talmages hat? love it.
Kayli, we missed you guys this weekend! I tried to go to the immigration office again for a last ditch effort, but to no avail--they turned me away, again. So lame. It's very weird not to have Thanksgiving. No Halloween and no Thanksgiving--I hardly feel American anymore. Sad day. They don't even sell whole turkeys here--just the leg. So Carlos and I went out for a fancy schmancy dinner on Saturday night--which was great, but no Thanksgiving meal. Anyway--hopefully we'll get to come visit you guys--I'll be looking for tickets! Your onion festival looked very cool. I hope Brett bought you a bouquet of garlic and onions. Nothing says "I love you sweetheart" better than that!
If you can't have thanksgiving I'd say an onion/garlic festival is just the thing. Bubbly fountains and mallets -- there you go, problem solved.
I'm so glad you left a comment so I could pop in on your life. I'll certainly be back. Your children are darling and without you I may have never had the opportunity to see an onion bunny. And how sad would that be?
That was amazing. I so want to go.
