Albania Day 3 - Manastiri i Shën Merisë and Krorëza Beach

So after checking out the Porto Palermo castle, we kept going until we got to, well, a place at the end of a road-- couldn't go any farther because it was gated-- but there was a trail there to a monastery. This monastery we had been searching for is called Manastiri i Shën Merisë. So we parked on the side of the road, and followed a trail that kind of went up in the hills, and goats or sheep field (on the internets I had found people that said the shepherd's dog was super aggressive and will not hesitate to get angry at humans who are near his sheet, so I was a little nervous), and finally up to this old abandoned monastery. We saw a couple jewel beetles on the way.

The monastery was really cool. One of my favorite places that we got to explore. It was beautiful.

The chapel was super cool.

So then we continued onward and upward on a trail that was small, and steep, but actually marked occasionally with funny signs in English that would say "Keep going, you can make it. Heaven is waiting at the end." and things like that. Well, heaven actually WAS waiting at the end, because we were hiking to Kroreza Beach, and oh my gosh, it was beyond belief STUNNINGLY beautiful!!
So, actually after quite a hike, Talmage and Ethne decided they were tired and didn't want to keep hiking. This was frustrating to me for a few reasons: a. they hadn't reached the end, which was going to be SOOO AWESOME and worth the hike and b. they had already gotten past the hardest section. They literally stopped right where you turned a corner and started heading down and the wind was starting to blow and cool you down, so why stop now? and c. WHY STOP? Why is that better than seeing something amazing? How is that more fun/fulfilling?? But anyway, I didn't want to be nagging and making them do things against their will, so I didn't MAKE them come the rest of the way (so glad Brett was still happy to go with me), but I honestly feel like they would have had a BETTER time if they had come. And such are the difficulties/ironies of older children who you can't just take their hand and make them come and feed them a gummy bear and start telling them a story to distract them.

Anyway, so we started getting glimpses of this beach, and it was out of this world incredible.

We passed another tiny little chapel thingee, and it was cool.

My dreams are made of these blues.

We got down to the beach and literally had the entire thing to ourselves save one stray dog. I think that the beach doesn't keep up much after the height of summer? and also it was suuuuuper windy that day, so if any boats had been scheduled to come in, I'm positive they were canceled. The wind made the waves look just amazing! It was blissfully, gloriously blue! What a day to be alive!

I climbed up some rocks.

Then we hiked back and passed one couple, the only ones we had seen since getting on the trail, and picked up Talmage and Ethne and walked back to the car.

And some drone screenshots:
